Project Description:

The City of Tafilah is located approximately 220 km southwest of Amman. The existing wastewater treatment and collection systems serve the area within Tafilah, Al-‘Eis, including the Tafilah Technical University, and parts of Ruwaym. The wastewater system consists of a WWTP located to the north of the city center with approximately 29 km of main sewer lines flowing into it. The Tafilah WWTP was constructed in 1989 with a design capacity of 1,600 m3/day, capable of handling an organic concentration (BOD) of 1,060 mg/L and total suspended solids of 1,175 mg/L. The major treatment process units include a headworks, Imhoff tanks, trickling filters, secondary clarifiers and sludge drying beds.

The Tafilah Wastewater Treatment Plant will include but not be limited to the replacement and demolition of the existing WWTP with a new plant constructed on the existing site and a new site to the west of the existing WWTP having the following components:

  •  Site Access Road
  •  East and West Interceptors and Outfall to Wadi
  •  Headworks with wadi overflow structure and flow metering, screens, and grit and grease removal and septage receiving
  •  Oxidation ditch activated sludge process and secondary clarification
  •  WAS/RAS conveyance systems
  •  Disinfection
  •  Sludge thickening
  •  Sludge dewatering by centrifuges
  •  Sludge drying beds
  •  Odor control
  •  Yard piping
  •  Site work including all utilities
  •  Power supply and distribution system
  •  Administration, maintenance, dewatering, sludge pumping, and chlorination buildings
  •  Instrument and control systems
